A churidar is a long fitting pyjama worn by the North Indian groom. Churidars are usually fine muslins or cottons, white in color. The traditional churidar is tied with a nara at the waist. New variants come with an elastic, and do away with the hassle of tying the knot (of the nara, i.e)! What is special about them is that they are longer than the legs. Their extremes are crinkled and crumpled to fit. Creases thus developed resemble ‘churis’ or bangles, hence the name churidars. A churidar is a perfect accompaniment to long kurtas and sherwanis.

After much acclaim for previous collections, Simon Spurr recently debuted a new high-end tailored collection in New York.

When I asked Fashion PR director, Austin Smedstead, about what inspired SpurrÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s collection, he responded with the following statement from Simon:

Ã¢â‚¬Å“My intention was to establish SIMON SPURR as a modern luxury menswear brand. I definitely drew upon my British roots and focused on precision tailoring loosely inspired by the 60/70Ã¢â‚¬â„¢s Savile Row tailor, Tommy Nutter. I wanted to bring a British sensibility to American fashion week. IÃ¢â‚¬â„¢m British, many of my reference points are British and thatÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s my look.Ã¢â‚¬Â

Situated in Mayfair of central London, Savile Row is the Ã¢â‚¬Å“golden mile of tailoringÃ¢â‚¬Â where the term bespoke tailoring is said to have originated. In contrast to ready-to-wear, bespoke tailoring refers to highly customized clothing, which is patterned and crafted for an individual.

Tommy Nutter (1943-1992) reinvented the Savile Row suit in the 1960Ã¢â‚¬â„¢s, having opened his own shop on Savile Row in 1969. He modernized Savile Row with open windows and bold displays.
